On-site Power Development and Management for Large Energy Users

Green Nation has funded, installed and managed solar panels on rooftops and adjoining land for dozens of large energy users on rooftops across the country – from schools and colleges to commercial premises and entertainment venues.

We help building owners save money and cut carbon emissions without any capital expenditure or operating expense. By putting solar panels on your rooftop or adjoining land, often along with battery storage, building owners can cost-effectively reduce their carbon emissions.

What’s in it for the Site Owner and User?

Site owners and users who partner with us only pay for the electricity they use. This kind of PPA agreement encourages uptake as the up-front cost is paid for by Green Nation:

  • No capital cost for the solar panels – solar panels are installed for free
  • Financial savings on your electricity bill – immediate savings that will increase over time. Hedge against long-term energy price increases
  • Carbon savings – solar panels reduce your emissions in a highly visible way, as well as adding more renewable capacity, and are a big step towards achieving your wider sustainability goals
  • No risk/ hassle/ ongoing maintenance – we take care of everything: monitoring; maintenance; insurance; meter readings; remedial works.

What Green Nation does:

We act as project and asset managers for the installation throughout its life. We secure the relevant planning permissions to enable the development and ensure that there is sufficient capacity on the local grid to connect the installation. We will work with an installer to specify the equipment to be used – we insist on high-quality components to maximise the power produced and the reliability of the system.

Green Nation funds the build, with the backing of investors who are attracted to the steady income solar provides over the years. We then monitor the output of the solar panels and the health of the system for the lifetime of our agreement and organise any repairs and maintenance that are needed.

Any excess is exported to the grid and sold by us on the wholesale market.

Case study: Aston Martin F1 team

Green Nation and our installation partner Watt Energy Saver have successfully installed a 975 kWp rooftop solar system at Aston Martin F1 Team’s new headquarters at Silverstone. Aston Martin F1 has since gone on to be the first F1 team to achieve the globally recognised ISO 50001 certification in effective energy management and energy performance. This project is a major step forward for both companies’ mission to help businesses across the country reduce their reliance on fossil fuels and embrace more sustainable practices.

The solar installation forms a part of Aston Martin F1 Team’s major £200M development, which covers construction of the main building of the headquarters, new wind tunnel and employee experience and event space.

The solar installation forms a part of Aston Martin F1 Team’s major £200M development, which covers construction of the main building of the headquarters, new wind tunnel and employee experience and event space.

The solar panels will provide clean, renewable energy to power the new headquarters, saving on energy costs, around £250,000 in its first year, and cutting its carbon emissions by 412 tCO2 per annum.

The PPA model means Green Nation covers all capital and operational costs, allowing Aston Martin F1 Team to focus its funds on its core project. Green Nation will also reduce the operational complexity of the solar system with ongoing monitoring and maintenance of the system over the next 20 years.

The installation process was completed on time and on budget, thanks to the combined efforts of Green Nation and Watt Energy Saver’s experienced team of engineers and technicians. The companies’ commitment to quality was evident throughout the project, and the end result is a state-of-the-art solar energy system to complement a state-of-the-art F1 facility.
